چکیده / توضیح Computer-assisted diagnosis (CAID) is commonly used to evaluate cardiac nuclear medicine studies such as thallium perfusion scans. Part 1 of this series (Journal of Digital Imaging, 5:209–222, 1992) reviewed the basic theory underlying CAID in nuclear medicine and its use in planar thallium imaging. Part 2 discussed the application of CAID to SPECT perfusion studies (Journal of Digital Imaging, 6:1–15, 1993). This article reviews new variations of CAID programs for SPECT imaging and the application of expert systems and neural networks to CAID of nuclear medicine perfusion studies.

چکیده / توضیح Han Vandevyvere undertakes an investigation into some geometrical schemes that can be supposed to underlie the plans and facades of a number of Flemish Gothic town halls, all of them built from the late fourteenth till the early sixteenth century. To govern his study he founded a set of basic ordering rules: a search for simple series of integer numbers, so as to obtain simple ratios between the dimensions; a check to see that what is found to set up a plan is also found in the elevations; the preferential use of geometrical constructions that can easily be constructed with the compass and the carpenter’s square; checking the design in the measurement units that were in use at the moment and place of construction; a check for the use of construction based on a circle, its inscribed square and equilateral triangle.

چکیده / توضیح In this paper, some design applications of Fuzzy Control are reviewed and discussed. Design conveys multiplicities, contradictions, differences, into temporary hypotheses. Actual realizations, papers, are the place where reflections consist; the reflections matured in several technological ambits appear in terms of sums of experiences and solutions’shifted’ from their own place of origin to the detailed synthesis that rules the assembling. We ask ourselves how fuzzy logic, that finds its reason for existence in the interpretation of the reality and exalt the ‘shifts’ can point towards the architectural process.

چکیده / توضیح In many manufacturing cases, engineers are required to optimize a number of responses simultaneously. A common approach for the optimization of multiple-response problems begins with using polynomial regression models to estimate the relationships between responses and control factors. Then, a technique for combining different response functions into a single scalar, such as a desirability function, is employed and, finally, an optimization method is used to find the best settings for the control factors. However, in certain cases, relationships between responses and control factors are far too complex to be efficiently estimated by polynomial regression models. In addition, in many manufacturing cases, engineers encounter qualitative responses, which cannot be easily stated in the form of numbers. An alternative approach proposed in this paper is to use an artificial neural network (ANN) to estimate the quantitative and qualitative response functions. In the optimization phase, a genetic algorithm (GA) is considered in conjunction with an unconstrained desirability function to determine the optimal settings for the control factors. Two manufacturing examples in which engineers were asked to optimize multiple responses from the semiconductor and textile industries are included in this article. The results indicate the strength of the proposed approach in the optimization of multiple-response problems.

چکیده / توضیح Genetically optimized neural network systems (GONNS) was developed to simulate the intelligent decision-making capability of human beings. After they are trained with experimental data or observations, GONNS use one or more artificial neural networks (ANN) to represent complex systems. The optimization is performed by one or more genetic algorithms (GA). In this study, the GONNS was used to estimate the optimal operating condition of the friction stir welding (FSW) process. Five separate ANNs represented the relationship between two identical input parameters and each one of the considered characteristics of the welding zone. GA searched for the optimized parameters to make one of the parameters maximum or minimum, while the other four are kept within the desired range. The GONNS was found as an excellent optimization tool for FSW.

چکیده / توضیح Programmable logic controller (PLC) is one of the most important components in today’s manufacturing. Its performance-based microprocessor and software have been a bottleneck for improving its efficiency. To enhance the PLC performance and flexibility, a new PLC design based on field programmable gate array (FPGA) has been a hot topic because of its parallel execution mechanism and reconfigurable hardware structure. From practical viewpoint, in this paper, the authors propose an approach to implement the existing ladder diagram (LD) inside FPGA making full use of the advantage of FPGA device. The essential of this research includes two issues: (a) analyze the LD program and organize it with sequential and parallel structure and (b) implement the sequential and parallel structure of the LD program with hardware description language inside FPGA. To the first work, the condensed simultaneity graph theory is applied to optimize the LD program with sequential and parallel structure. To the second work, Boolean equations are taken as the bridge to convert the optimized LD program to the hardware description language program. Finite state machine is used to generate sensitive signals to guarantee that the performance of the converted very high-speed integrated circuit hardware description language design is the same as the original ladder diagram. A case study is practiced to verify the proposed approach in this paper.

چکیده / توضیح Optimization of multi-criteria problems is a great need of producers to produce precision parts with low costs. Optimization of multi-performance characteristics is more complex compared to optimization of single-performance characteristics. The theory of grey system is a new technique for performing prediction, relational analysis, and decision making in many areas. In this paper, the use of grey relational analysis for optimizing the turning process parameters for the workpiece surface roughness and the chip thickness is introduced. Various turning parameters, such as cutting speed, feed rate, tool nose radius, and concentration of solid–liquid lubricants (minimum-quantity lubricant) were considered. A factorial design with eight added center points was used for the experimental design. Optimal machining parameters were determined by the grey relational grade obtained from the grey relational analysis for multi-performance characteristics (the surface roughness and the chip thickness). The results of confirmation experiments reveal that grey relational analysis coupled with factorial design can effectively be used to obtain the optimal combination of turning parameters. Experimental results have shown that the surface roughness and the chip thickness in the turning process can be improved effectively through the new approach. The minimum surface roughness and smallest chip thickness are 9.83 and 0.32 mm, respectively, obtained at optimal conditions of cutting speed, 1,200 rpm; feed rate, 0.06 mm/rev; nose radius, 0.8 mm; and concentration of solid–liquid lubricant (10% boric acid + SAE-40 base oil).

چکیده / توضیح The aim of this paper is to develop mathematical model and computational procedure for optimisation of feed rate at CNC routing operations of wooden furniture parts. The proposed approach takes into consideration special characteristics of solid wood, like changes in cutting forces and obtained surface quality along with cutting direction. A multistage optimisation procedure is developed, which employs binary search method and genetic algorithm. Because of the problem of full specification of feasible region in the form of inequalities, a fuzzy logic is used for correction of intermediate results within computational procedure. The developed method is verified by optimisation of routing operation of a typical furniture part, i.e. commode top. As a result of optimisation, the processing time is reduced by 54 %.
